Deep Spiking greens on Hawkshill
Due to the very heavy rainfall in recent weeks, there is a lack of air and oxygen within the soil. To eliminate this condition spiking is being carried out to increase air movement and improve drainage on the greens.
If we do not spike the greens, the result will be very poor grass cover, poor root growth and sealing of the surface. This exercise may not be popular but it is carried out for the long term benefit of the greens.
